So, is photography dead? It’s a big question that I get a lot. "It’s too saturated to make money," people say. NOT TRUE.
Photography is NOT dead.
Not at all.
1. Nature photography is like a classic love story – it never gets old. People will always crave those stunning landscapes and nature scenes to grace their spaces. It’s our way of feeling connected to the great outdoors, even when we’re inside.
2. Your photos do more than just look pretty. They’re a window into the beautiful outdoors. You’re not just snapping pics; you’re raising awareness and inspiring people to take care of our planet.
3. High-quality nature photos are hot commodities. Think travel agencies, advertisers, publishers, and interior designers – they all need captivating visuals. Your photos can be the magic touch that elevates their projects and campaigns.
4. The love for outdoor adventures and travel is on the rise, and with it, the demand for nature photography. People are looking for ways to bring the beauty of the outside world into their daily lives, and your work can fulfill that desire.
5. Your photos tell stories, capture cultural expressions, and reflect our place in the world. It’s a powerful medium that resonates deeply with people.

I would say it’s the most important thing that a photographer owner can do.
Any business owner, as matter of fact.
So here’s a little story for you.
For my senior project in college, I sold an image. It was an "oh my God" moment, I can't believe someone actually paid me for what I loved to do.
It felt like a dream. That somehow, I could appear online, take photos, help others by giving them a feeling from my work, and make money from that.
It truly seemed far-fetched, but I saw other photographers do this and make a ton of money, so it gave me this silly little hope that maybe, just maybe, I could do the same.
Well, I did what I thought would make me money: I built a website and started posting my photographs to everyone.
And there was little me, sitting in my little office waiting for the sales to come in…
But that didn't happen 😢
Thinking, “Maybe, just maybe, I’m not good enough, and it was a fluke that someone actually bought a photograph from me.”
Even though I felt confused and actually discouraged about what next steps to take, the one thing I really learned from the sale was to “never give up, whatever you do.”

So I...
Seemed easy enough.
But, it wasn’t.
Seven years ago, trying to capture someone's email and then send them a freebie was nearly impossible. Seriously.
AND
Sending emails to people that are not going to buy from you is a total waste of time.
After months of fumbling and lots of learning, I finally figured out how to find my clients..
I just needed to understand them.
It was such a simple idea that I couldn’t believe that was it. What did I do? I share the steps within this course to move this faster.
And I will never forget the first time someone wanted and image from me and found me… I didn’t find them. It was like I was a magnet.
I literally couldn’t believe it.
Someone actually gave me their money and it happened without me doing a thing.
They went to my site, and connected with me via email and BOOM. I had a new email client.
Truth be told, I felt cool. And excited.
But then, from there, I froze. I wasn’t sure if this was a fluke again.
So I put out content that my clients actually loved the clients kept coming in. What! I was like, this is gold!
When I did finally conjure enough confidence and time to connect more directly with clients I’d love to work with, this is what it sounded much like this:
Hi friend,
So glad we connected (insert where). I just put together a new piece of work for my portfolio (insert name). I wanted to send it to you and
hope you'd enjoy it.
It’s all about "insert feelings from the photograph" and I hope it helps you (insert what you sell - e.g. see the beauty hanging on your wall or helps you see the vision for your business).
(I’d insert a small jpg of the image and make it clickable to your website.)

Simple.
And, people actually liked those little emails.
So, I was in the weeds of life trying to manage small kids. It was a lot. Plus, I worked fulltime 😔
I would like to send an email whenever I can between cleaning up messy spills, taking the kids to school, practicing for their sports, working full time, and trying to build a photography brand.
It wasn’t consistent, but I would do the best I could.
Either way, with my inconsistent plan, I gained over 3,000 for just one image—my average!
Yes. people were paying me thousands for my work NOT hundreds.
With an inconsistent plan.
Now, this is where the story gets great. Initially, I just grew my business in my industry and spread more joy and feelings to my clients.
At the time, I made work for my clients now, and I wanted to make sure they got what they wanted, so I made videos on YouTube for me to remember my steps.
People started liking them… I was shocked.
And if felt good!
I just wanted to help others so I started to teach how I processed my work.
I didn’t even know you could make money from it, nor was that really my goal.
But, in a very cool way, my audience started to request training programs from me, and I got so many messages, I realized I should have a training program.
Companies even started to find me and paid me thousands for my Lightroom and Photoshop courses.
And this is where the story gets crazy.
I repeated the same steps in this course because I had a new perfect client in mind. I wanted to help photographers make the pictures they take beautiful.
Yep, I made money and was fulfilled in life!
Those thousands of dollars have come in because I know my client; otherwise, I would be at hundreds in revenue without my plan.
Knowing who your clients are… plays a huge huge huge part in closing a sale.
And, it doesn’t matter what you sell or serve.
If you sell something, you must understand who to sell to… this makes the sale.
Plus, they will remember you.
The best part is you keep making sales. Build trust and increase your prices.
Your business grows and grows, and my income does the same.
