Pricing your photography can feel intimidating. You don’t want to scare off potential clients, but you also can’t afford to work for peanuts. The good news? A solid pricing strategy will help you charge what you're worth with confidence.
In this episode, I’m breaking it all down so you can stop second-guessing and start owning your value.
Know Your Costs
Before setting prices, you need to know what it actually costs to run your photography business. We’re talking gear, editing software, marketing, travel, taxes, the whole picture.
If you’re just throwing numbers out there without factoring in these expenses, you could end up working for less than minimum wage. And you deserve better than that.
Think Value, Not Just Time
Photography isn’t just about snapping pictures. It’s about capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments, creating an experience, and giving clients something they’ll treasure forever.
That’s why I love value-based pricing. When you focus on the transformation your work provides, clients will happily invest in YOU, not just your time behind the camera.
Create a Value Ladder
Not everyone will jump straight into your top-tier package, and that’s okay. A value ladder gives clients different entry points. Start with a lower-priced offer that introduces them to your work, then guide them up to your premium services.
It’s a great way to build trust and long-term relationships while ensuring your pricing makes sense for different budgets.
Let Testimonials Do the Talking
People want proof before they invest, and nothing speaks louder than a glowing testimonial. When potential clients see others raving about their experience with you, they’ll feel more confident booking you, even at higher prices. Showcase those testimonials everywhere: your website, social media, and even in your pricing guide.
Stand Out Instead of Competing on Price
It’s tempting to check out what other photographers are charging, but don’t fall into the comparison trap. Instead of trying to be the cheapest, focus on what makes YOU unique. Your style, your story, your approach, all of these add value. The right clients will pay for that.
Confidence in pricing doesn’t happen overnight, but the more you own your worth, the easier it gets. Start where you are, tweak as you grow, and remember, progress over perfection.
