How To Pick Your Images That Will Sell

As photographers, we all know that marketing our work can feel like a daunting task. It's easy to get caught up in the idea that selling is all about pushing products, which can feel uncomfortable. But the truth is, selling your photography doesn’t have to be hard, and you don’t have to be “salesy” to succeed.

In a recent podcast, I shared my strategies for attracting clients to your photography business without feeling like you're begging for sales.

Video below is the uncut version of the podcast.

Understand Your Market
Whether you shoot fine art, landscapes, or portraits, knowing your market is essential. Research trends, follow industry blogs, and stay active on social media to understand what your target audience values. Get in front of the right eyes by staying informed and aligned with current interests.

Connect Through Storytelling
People don’t just buy photos—they connect with the story behind them. When sharing your work on platforms like LinkedIn, go beyond the final image. Talk about the process, the inspiration, and the journey. Storytelling turns your work into a relatable experience, not just a product. It doesn't have to be confined to words, other photographers have gone the route of publishing their work into books which is a form of visual storytelling.

Find Your Niche
Your niche isn’t just the type of photography you do; it’s the people you serve. If you’re a landscape photographer, your niche could be people who love nature and want to bring that beauty into their homes. Focus on understanding and appealing to the right audience, not just capturing the perfect shot.

Social Media Doesn’t Have to Be a Time Sink
Social media doesn’t have to be a distraction—it can be a powerful way to connect with potential clients. Instead of mindlessly scrolling, focus on sharing your work, telling stories, and engaging with your audience. Authenticity will draw in your ideal clients and keep them coming back.

These are just a few of the tactics I shared in the latest podcast episode. If you want to dive deeper into how to sell your photography without feeling like you're pushing a product, make sure to listen to the full episode.
